Judge allows homicide by vehicle-OWI charge in child's 2024 death

A Linn County judge ruled the 2013 crash death of Izabella Denney can support a new homicide by vehicle-OWI charge against Brandon Schaul. He previously faced serious injury by vehicle for Izabella and a 2013 conviction, with the death in 2024 not violating double jeopardy or statutes of limitations. The Aug. 19 trial date remains set.

North Liberty man charged with sex abuse of minor

Emily Andersen reports that a 24 year old Hetpital Patel was arrested in North Liberty on two counts of third degree sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old. The alleged abuse occurred from August 2023 to April 2024 at a North Liberty residence. He had not yet appeared in court and bond details were unavailable.
