Fannie Mae Penalizes Walkaway Homeowners Seven-Year Loan Ban
Fannie Mae announces a policy to deter strategic default by forbidding borrowers who walk away from obtaining new loans for seven years. The rule targets those who fail to seek loan workouts despite affordability, with possible legal action to recoup debts in states that permit it. Freddie Mac may follow with a shorter five-year wait.
