Alan Webb ran the 1500 meters at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene Oregon finishing fifth with a time of 3 38 5 Saturday. He reached the bell lap in the race as the field pressed for the final sprint.
Eugene report notes former Drake University star and Ankeny native Little reaches the 200 meter final at the U S Outdoor National Track and Field Championships after a 20 31 seconds heat win and a 20 21 seconds semifinal. Additional Iowa notes include Woody in the 400 hurdles final and Allen placing 12th in the discus.
Hall of fame racer Hank Lower of Angola Indiana held off Mike Ling of Mt Brydges Ontario and Gary Fedewa of Holt Michigan to win the 50 lap Freedom Festival Winged Outlaw Sprint Car Nationals before about 4500 fans at Hawk Eye Downs Speedway. Ling pressured late after a mid race tire stop reshuffled the field. Lower led Ling and Fedewa in a tense finish amid lapped traffic.
Iowa basketball alumni Cara Consuegra and four other Hawkeyes play in the WNBA as of June 21. The group includes Amy Herrig Michelle Edwards Simone Edwards and Tangela Smith, representing Iowa in Seattle Utah and Sacramento, underscoring Iowa's strong program and its impact on recruits.
