Fossils tie birds to dinosaur origins in China finds
Two Chinese fossils of feathered small dinosaurs dated 120 to 136 million years ago are described by an international team as strong evidence that birds evolved from dinosaurs. Researchers say the specimens show running, winged dinosaurs with tail feathers, not yet true birds, and publish the work in Nature and a National Geographic cover story.

Zinc lozenges fail to ease children's cold symptoms
A study on 249 suburban Cleveland students finds 10 milligram zinc lozenges five to six times daily no different from placebos in duration and symptom relief for colds. The research, funded in part by Quigley Corp, mirrors prior adult results and notes possible zinc dosage or flavoring issues.
