Dam Break Drowns Rescuer Near Lynchburg
In Timberlake Virginia a ruptured dam emptied a lake flooded homes and a rescue worker, Carter Martin, 41, of the Brookville Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department, drowned while checking a flooded car on Buffalo Creek bridge. Residents woke to a water surge and debris field, with eight inches of rain since Wednesday night contributing to the disaster.

First grader steals car to get to school on time
A 7 year old in Colebrook NH took a 1989 Ford Escort to reach school on time on the last day of class. Police Chief Mike Sielicki followed the car for two blocks and kept the sirens off to avoid spooking the driver. The boy said he planned to be late but intended to drive the cruiser home. Karen Mercier recovered the bike left in her car’s spot and found the car.
