Nationally known science fiction writer Mickey Zucker Reichert leads a 9:30 a.m. youth workshop at Cedar Rapids Public Library Beems Auditorium, with pre registration by calling 398-5123. Tuba soloist Mark Cox headlines a Cedar Rapids Municipal Band concert at Noelridge Park at 8 p.m. with a program including Beelzebub and Sousa encores, repeated Sunday at Bever Park. Hail Damage Hits Fayette County Crops

A storm moving across Fayette County at about 4 30 p m Tuesday dumped an inch of hail south of St Lucas. The hailstorm heavily damaged crops in the St Lucas area while heavy rain damaged a road south of Arlington, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

Judge approves sale of Farmstead plant in Cedar Savannah

U S Bankruptcy Judge Michael Melloy okayed the sale of the defunct Farmstead Foods plant to Benlyn Inc for 400000 dollars in cash. Stickle Enterprises bids 48000 dollars to remove an old fuel tank and chemicals from the site. Mesquakie casino project put on hold amid tribal discord

Grand Casinos Inc. says work on a Mesquakie Indian Settlement casino is stalled due to opposition from Tribal Chairman Keith Davenport and two council members. The contract, signed on a 3-2 vote, would have Grand Casinos loaning funds and managing operations for seven years. Davenport argues the tribe can run the casino alone.
