Mount Vernon Robbery Ends With Injuries At Home
Mount Vernon police probe a Tuesday night home invasion where two armed men wearing ski masks burst in on Davis and Mohn. Davis was struck with a shotgun and treated at St. Luke's Hospital. the assailants fled in a northbound vehicle after 15 minutes with an unknown cash amount. Authorities seek suspects with Linn County Sheriff aid.

Former Cedar Rapids resident sues University of Iowa Hospitals
Karen K. Waddell of Victor Texas filed in Johnson County District Court against the state over injuries after a 1979 gastric bypass at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The suit says nursing staff attempted to irrigate a nasogastric tube two days post op causing internal injuries and longer hospital stay. Waddell seeks damages for added medical costs and disability.

State work program starts July 1 for AFDC heads of households
The Iowa DSS says the unemployment work program for AFDC recipients begins July 1 with no required work yet while regulations are drafted. About 485 Linn County residents could qualify. the community work phase is planned for September and will be county contracted with agencies.

Pigs Stolen From Farm Lead to Two Arrests
Two men, Robert L. Baker and Thomas H. Stacey, were arrested early Wednesday on second degree theft charges after deputies found 11 feeder pigs in a car on a rural Linn County road. Five pigs suffocated, the rest were returned to farmer Dennis Erenberger. Baker and Stacey appeared in Linn District Court and were released on their own recognizance.
