Reagan Touts Tuition Tax Credit Bill Amid Opposition
President Reagan proposed a tax credit allowing up to 500 dollars per child in 1985 for families with children in private schools. The plan draws criticism from the National Education Association as redistributing funds from public to private institutions and faces Senate and House hurdles ahead of the election. The bill links credits to private school tuition with stage totals of 100, 300, and 500 dollars through 1985, excluding discrimination by race but permitting single-sex schools.
