Carnivals Shrink As Fuel Costs Bite Pembina County Fair
Pem bina County Fair, once home to two dozen rides like the Ferris wheel and Tilt a Whirl, will skip carnival rides for inflatable games due to rising fuel costs and dwindling attendance. Fair organizer Neil Fleming notes the fair’s 115 year run but says supply and demand pressures leave many fairs without carnivals. Industry figures say fuel costs have quadrupled in a decade and moving shows remains expensive, driving several small fairs to drop or reduce rides.
