All-Iowa Fair to Feature 1 300 Livestock Entries at Hawkeye Downs
The All-Iown Fair opens next week in Cedar Rapids with 1300 live stock entries across swine beef dairy and sheep shows. Beef leads with 677 entries followed by 324 dairy cattle and 256 sheep entries. Swine entries total 43 with no junior entries this year. Simmental beef show debuts with 80 entries while Hereford numbers dip to 13. Junior show counts include 170 steers and 150 heifers. Breed breakdown lists Angus 120 Simmental 80 Polled Hereford 74 Shorthorn 70 and Hereford 13. Dairy shows have 68 Jersey 54 Holstein 50 Ayrshire 48 Guernsey 48 Milking Shorthorn 45 Brown Swiss and 11 unlisted. Sheep include 110 Suffolk 24 Hampshire 15 Columbia-Hampshire 15 Dorset 14 Columbia 10 Southdown 9 Shropshire 7 Suffolk-Dorset 4 Suffolk-Hampshire 4 Hampshire quality lamb and 2 market lamb. Junior sheep add 19 crossbred and 23 Suffolk. Swine breeds cover Hampshire 7 Poland China and cross varieties ranks with 3-7 head per breed.
