Tipton Man Hurt in Route 149 Auto Crash
Palmer Holden, 41, of Tipton, was seriously injured Thursday evening when his car lost control on highway 149 between Amana and Homestead and plunged down a 30 foot embankment. He suffered a broken right leg fractured clavicle chest injuries and cuts. Transported by ambulance to St Luke's Hospital Cedar Rapids, he remained listed in fair condition Friday by hospital staff.

Convicted Drunk Driver Pays Fine Plus Jail Term
Jack W. Comstock 37 of Vernon was sentenced to 90 days in Linn county jail a month ago. He will pay a $300 fine with installments of $50 down and $25 a month. Judge Penningroth set aside the last 60 days of jail time and imposed the fine, noting time served does not credit the fine. The $300 remains a lien on his property.

Plane Crash in Puget Sound Kills Five Seamen

Beeks Faces Failure To Report Accident Charge

A. M. Cohron a 59 year old Des Moines contractor drowned Friday in the Cedar River about ten miles from Muscatine while working on a bridge. He apparently slipped into the river unseen as men heard him cry for help. Two row boats tried to reach him but he disappeared before rescuers arrived.
