Cattle drug harms dung beetles and soil health
British researchers report the anti parasitic drug ivermectin used in cattle slows dung decomposition. In a Nature study Richard Wall and Les Strong of the University of Bristol found 17 dung beetles in treated dung after 100 days versus 780 in untreated dung. Slower decay may reduce grass yields and raise fly breeding.
