Iowa liquor bottle deposit program falls short of expectations
Des Moines reports show only 1 percent of liquor buyers returned bottles in the first week and statewide returns vary from 5.5 to 12.5 percent after seven weeks. State official Rol land Gallagher says a one year return rate near 50 percent is unlikely, perhaps around one third, as the program expands to beer and soda containers starting July.
