Neal Campbell age 29 and Max Cooper 35, both from Los Alamos Scientific Laboratories, fell on Blanca Peak 14 363 feet high. Sec ond Lt Carroll Dickson led Fort Carson soldiers who recovered the bodies using litters after nearly eight hours. The pair were last seen 500 feet above the lifeless site by 15 companions.
A fast spreading blaze swept the Gamble department store in Fort Dodge downtown, starting in the basement of the two story building and spreading up the rear wall. The fire threatened adjacent businesses as ammunition within the store ignited, drawing the entire city fire department and aid from Humboldt.
New York social page notes Gamble Benedict, heiress and former wife of Romanian-born Andre Porumbeanu, is omitted from the summer edition of the Social Register. Her brother Douglas and grandmother Mrs Henry Harper Benedict remain listed. The reasons for the omission are not provided. Gamble, 19, previously dismissed the register as a simple phone directory.
Four Fort Lauderdale businessmen died when their small private plane, flying from Nassau in hazardous weather, crashed into the Atlantic about 30 miles southeast of Fort Lauderdale. Investigators began reviewing the fatal accident.

Nina Grace Bunger of 1245 Second Avenue SE Cedar Rapids died Tuesday after a brief illness. Born June 7 1885 in Chicago she came to Cedar Rapids at age four and worked many years at Martins Dry Goods before retirement. Survived only by four cousins. She was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist and Mary M. Smith Assn. Service 1 30 Thursday by the first reader burial Oak Mill Friends may call at the chapel.
Services for Ethel Turner Gaumer were held at 1 30 Wednesday by the Rev H L Sunderman with burial in Cedar Memorial. Fredrick A O'Kelly was honored at Kuba funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev John K Moore and Crescent lodge, burial also in Cedar Memorial.

Police arrested Harold Baker 24 of 2105 Eighth Ave SW after Mrs. Claude Millard signed an information alleging the dumping in a ditch near the Millard home. Baker appeared before Judge Loren Hullinger Jr. and was ordered to clean up the rubbish and report to court the next day.
Washington AP reports the agriculture department estimates this year's spring pig crop at 49,103,000 head, down 16 percent from last year. The smaller crop follows a sharp price drop, signaling potentially higher prices for spring hogs and possibly affecting midwestern farm state voting this fall.
A Tuesday afternoon crash on highway 275, four miles north of Hamburg, killed John Gordon about 55 and his son Pat 39, both Hamburg residents, and a third man from Omaha whose identity was not released. His wife was hospitalized in Hamburg in critical condition. Witnesses said the Omaha car skidded across the highway after passing two vehicles and struck the Gordon pickup.
