United States to Join Geneva Labor Organization to Raise Global Living Standards

The House passed a resolution to make the United States a member of the International Labour Organization in Geneva. President Roosevelt would use the membership to shape a broad social program including unemployment insurance and old age pensions. Four delegates will attend conventions to seek a 40 hour work week, curb child labor, and improve wages and conditions. The move is tied to supporting reciprocal trade by elevating living standards abroad. The resolution bars US association with the world court or League of Nations.
