Official canvass by the Iowa executive council shows Henry Field of Shenandoah leading Senator Smith W Brookhart by 51 361 votes in the Republican Senate race. Field won 197 263 votes to 145 902 for Brookhart across 436 562 ballots, carrying 73 of 99 counties and 45.2 percent to Brookhart's 33.4 percent.
A carrier pigeon arrived on the Cameronia after fainting on deck about 200 miles from Londonderry. The crew revived it with a drink of whiskey and the bird chose to stay aboard the ship.

United States Fidelity and Guarantee company files suit in district court asking for 5296 against F W McChesney son of the late W J McChesney. A writ of attachment is issued on McChesney’s property. The note was dated June 22 1931 from funds in the estate of Dr Henry J Prentiss.
A blaze at 219 First Street SW, near Second Avenue, caused about 5000 dollars in damage. The fire started in a back corner on the first floor where naptha paint and gasoline were stored, shattered rear windows, and forced water through the police station line to fight the flames. Nearly 200 motors were ruined and the building sustained smoke and water damage though actual structure loss was limited. Fire Chief E. P. Kohout supervised the response.
Lynn Morrow 16 of Hopkinton suffered a fracture of the right leg when a full barrel of spraying material rolled onto his leg as he walked to spray potatoes. He is the son of the Rev H E Morrow formerly of Kenwood Methodist Church and was taken to St Luke's Hospital at 7 p.m. Monday.
