Sheaffer pens rise from a backroom shop to an international brand
Walter Sheaffer, born 1867 in Bloomfield, Iowa, launched the fountain pen empire in 1912 with seven workers in a 10 by 14 foot room. The firm grew to 25 percent of industry sales by 1925, pioneered high quality gold point pens, and remained family controlled until 1966 before changing ownership to BIC two years earlier.
