Arena budget cuts reshape Hawkeye Sports Arena plans
Randall Bezanson told the Board of Regents nearly one million dollars were cut from the Hawkeye Sports Arena budget after dropping a roadway and a middle concourse. The revised plan reduces the project from 24.208 million to 23.223 million, with work shifted to existing funds and smaller contracts as the university aims to finish by the 1982 basketball season. A private gifts drive has raised about six million of an eight and a half million goal, with groundbreaking set for July 15 at the baseball stadium site for a 15 000 seat arena.
