Hy-Vee faces zoning battles on three sites
Hy-Vee Food Stores pressed the city zoning commission Tuesday for four actions. The 1421 33rd St. NE rezoning to office use passed, enabling removal of a house for a larger customer lot. A revised Drug Town drive plan was denied due to neighbor concerns. Rezoning of the 1556 First Ave. NE lot to office service was approved with driveway cautions. A Mount Vernon Road SE parcel for employee parking was approved with screening and keeping the 28th Street entrance open. A request to rezone three First St. SW lots to multiple family was denied amid neighborhood opposition. All actions move to the city planning commission for July 3.
