Sitdown Strike at Leavenworth Inmates Refuse Meals

Federal penitentiary inmates at Leavenworth staged a sitdown strike refusing to eat with no violence. Warden Looney called it a concerted effort by a few to cause trouble. The strike began Thursday night with 300 of 2200 inmates in the dining room and 100 at breakfast Friday.

Chief Judge Archibald Gardner signed a stay delaying the 2 year sentences of Mathew Connelly and T Lamar Caudle as they seek a new trial based on purported new evidence.
