Iowa reports no new deaths and 70 COVID-19 cases statewide

The Gazette reports 70 new cases in Iowa with no new deaths. Total positives reach 372,964 since March 2020, with 1,396,648 Iowans fully vaccinated. Linn County totals 21,214 cases. Johnson County shows zero new cases. Hospitalizations stand at 68 statewide, including 17 in ICU and 11 on ventilators.

Spirit Lake man to get new trial in murder case

Gregg Winterfeld of Spirit Lake will receive a new trial after a judge found improper jury selection left him with too few peremptory strikes. He was convicted of second degree murder in the May 9 2020 shooting death at a rural Sioux County home.
