Passenger Rocket Could Reach Seven Miles Per Second
Dr J M Zucrow of Purdue University and the American Rocket Society proposed a passenger rocket capable of seven miles per second 25 000 miles per hour. He said existing materials and fuels could enable such a ship and gravity would be overcome by its speed. The design envisions detachable sections as propellant burns out while noting the need for materials to withstand combustion chamber temperatures above 5000 degrees F. Potential propellants include aniline with red fuming nitric acid ethyl alcohol with liquid oxygen and liquid alcohol with liquid oxygen.
