Iran extends voting hours in presidential election
Iran reopened polls and extended voting by four hours in a tight presidential race. Turnout appeared higher than expected as booths operated at Tehran's cemetery and shrine sites while officials ferried ballots to nomad camps and deserts under scorching heat. If no candidate wins 50 percent, a runoff is set for next Friday.

Israel plans sea barrier off Gaza Strip
Israel will build an undersea barrier a half mile off the Gaza coast to deter attackers after a planned summer pullout. The first 150 yards will have cement pilings, with a 6 foot fence extending 800 yards beneath the surface. Construction could start soon but won’t finish before the mid August pullout. A Palestinian official called the plan political blindness and urged peace talks. Gaza houses 1.3 million Palestinians and is already surrounded by a fence.
