Marion approves police department reorganization on third reading
Marion City Council gave final approval to a plan to reorganize the Police Department adding four officers over a year and creating a lieutenant and detective rank. The plan, supported by Police Chief Chris Ebert, would raise staff from 25 to 29 with a fall hire, next year and two in the following spring, offset by pension savings and overtime cuts. Public opposition focused on budget concerns amid a $40,000 next-year cost, with $98,000 total extra salaries and benefits and about $22,000 not offset.
