City's appeal tossed out. Eaton story may be over
IOWA CITY The ongoing dispute between city officials and former firefighter Linda Eaton could reach the Iowa Supreme Court after a Johnson County District Court ruling threw out the city's appeal of a Civil Rights Commission finding. The ruling upheld pay damages totaling 2,000 for emotional distress, 145 in lost wages, and 26,442 in attorney fees. The city has 30 days to challenge before the high court, with potential complications over notification and a possible conflict of interest involving Councilman Lynch. The case has lingered 18 months and ends if the high court reverses or if the city abandons further appeals. Eaton, who quit after harassment claims, has filed for unemployment benefits.
