No Common Flag for Patriots in Revolutionary War Days
Boston report notes early patriots used separate regimental flags with no universal banner. It cites a 1777 Congress decision establishing 13 stripes and 13 stars on blue, while flag day was officially recognized only in 1949. The piece also questions Betsy Ross as the origin of the Stars and Stripes.
