In Jones Park action the Jaycees earned their first win of the year by beating Nordstrom Oil 12 10 lifting Nordstrom from the unbeaten class. Steve Hines threw a no hitter for Vigortone in a 3 1 win over the Machinists at Noelridge.
In the Midwest League action, Decatur beat Quad Cities 7-4 as Roger Heyden drove in three with a home run and a double. Burlington rolled past Wisconsin Rapids 9-3 with homers by Wojcik Enriquez and Yingling, who pitched the win. Quincy defeated Waterloo 7-5 behind Bob Durham’s two-run homer, while Fox Cities topped Dubuque 6-3.
Iowa City downed Bettendorf 7-0 as Donn Haugen allowed three hits and fanned 16 with one walk. The hosts scored in all but two innings, collecting 11 hits including a Dave Schapira homer. Bettendorf starter Mike Ahlen took the loss after giving up seven runs on 11 hits. Frank Hayes and Kenmane checked in for Bettendorf, while Haugen and Larry Burkett finished for Iowa City.
Blairstown defeated Keystone 1-0 in a Tri-County conference game played Monday night. The lone run came in the sixth inning as Blairstown pushed across a single run off Keystone's pitching. Pynes and Elichmeyer worked for Blairstown with Moore and Ebes catching.
Norway topped Belle Plaine 3-0 to seize a share of first place in the Tri-County baseball conference. Bill Brecht struck out 12 over a two hitter, lifting Norway to 4-0 in league play while Belle Plaine fell to 3-1. Boddicker had three hits in four trips with a run scoring double.
James Treat joins Starmont after graduating from Upper Iowa University in Fayette. He signs to coach football and track and teach junior high science and physical education beginning next fall, replacing Ron Armstrong who recently resigned.
Lou Juillerat head football coach and athletic director at Findlay college resigns to take similar duties at Northwood Institute in Midland Michigan. He leaves after serving in Findlay.
In a 12-13 year old Kids league game at Noelridge Park on Tuesday Eby's Hands Dairy Queen fell 6-5 to an unbeaten opponent. Snyder homered for Eby's, Nelson scored the deciding run on a single stolen base and error in the eighth.
Coca Cola broke loose with 14 runs in the third to down Wilson Co 18 to 4 at Van Vechten. Mike Thomsen and Steve Nystren each had three hits for the winners. Darrell Potter collected three hits for Wilsons.
The Watkins baseball team announces two upcoming games. Fairfax visit on July 16 at 7 p.m. Stanwood travels to Watkins on July 18 at 8 p.m.
The coach praised his squad as the greatest group he ever had while noting collective effort over individual stars. He stressed every competitor's role in securing championship points as guests from across the state attended the event with multiple telegrams arriving. Dr. Jack Moyers of Iowa City served as master of ceremonies.

Victor-HLV beat Van Horne 9-6 in a Tri County conference high school baseball game on Monday. Dick York slugged a solo homer in the fourth inning for HLV as they moved into the lead in the standings.
The team enters with a 4-0 conference and 10-7 overall mark. Van Horne carries a 1-3 record. Bossier, Kelly, and York contribute multiple points while Williams and Daniels add support as Jagim and other players post small tallies.
