Iowa Supreme Court Rules Deferred Judgment Counts as Final Conviction
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled that a deferred judgment for eluding a law enforcement vehicle qualifies as a final conviction for revoking an operator’s license. The ruling affects Robert Schilling of Dubuque County whose license was revoked for a year after a deferred judgment. The court held the revocation is public safety based, not punishment, so the conviction became final before Schilling challenged it.
