Three bodies including Cecilia Williams 40 and her husband Ims 31 were found in a car near a soybean field west of Coralville. Ronald Phillips 37 also died in the incident. Governor Terry Branstad and a delegation from Iowa entered the Soviet Union without visas after intervention by Eduard Shevardnadze and George Shultz. The visas, issued by the Soviet Embassy, were lost on a United flight and later expected to be reissued.
