Cedar Rapids police were probing multiple thefts across the city. Ray Hertz of Hertz Construction reported a power saw and heavy duty electric cord worth 150 dollars stolen from a site at 1338 Barkwood Drive SE. John McCune of Campus cafe said 150 dollars in receipts vanished from a sack in his car. Early thefts were 10 and 20 dollars, the latest 50. Mrs. Ollie Tobin reported a prowler entering her bedroom Monday night, taking 80 to 90 dollars and some jewelry.

Cascade Youth 17 Wounded in Rural Shooting Accident
John Ressler, 17, son of Mr and Mrs Jake Ressler of near Cascade, in serious condition after a .22 rifle wound to the abdomen. The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Monday on the Ressler farm seven miles northeast of Cascade while he and cousin Ben Schnider, visiting from Milwaukee, were shooting birds. Schnider’s rifle discharged accidentally.

Veteran Gazette Printer Dies After Brief Illness
Lloyd William Spencer 63 of 2927 Woodland Dr SW Cedar Rapids a Navy World War I veteran and longtime printer at The Gazette Company died at 6 10 am Tuesday after a brief illness. Born January 27 1895 in Vinton he married Mabel Arzt November 27 1919 in Rock Island. Surviving are his wife two daughters Mrs H L Rupperle and Mrs Jack R Kindig a sister and several relatives. He belonged to the Eagles VFW and Typographical Union. Services Thursday at 3 30 in Turner chapel conducted by Rev John K Moore with Cedar Memorial cemetery burial. Friends may call at the chapel.
