Sewer Explosions Rock Indiana City
In Richmond Indiana a string of explosions rocked the sewer system Monday night. Fire crews guarded streets as damaged alleys caught fire but were quickly controlled. Mrs. Bessie Ryan Jordan died after a manhole cover was blown into the air and she collapsed. A coroner’s preliminary report cites heart attack possibly triggered by sewer gas. Investigators consider gasoline possibly seeping into mains after a nearby filling station incident.
