Rainfall spike from Gulf storm affects Iowa forecasts
The storm dumped two inches of rain in one hour changing the month’s rainfall trend. Cedar Rapids officials monitor forecast and river levels while sewer crews inspect systems for potential flooding. A Gulf disturbance could bring more rain, delaying Lake Delhi dam work as Maquoketa River high flow breaks a wall.

Bird flu outbreak slows as USDA investigates new case in Iowa
Iowa officials report the bird flu toll exceeds 32.7 million birds across 76 farms in 18 counties. Higher temperatures and decontamination slow transmission, but a new case is under investigation. Officials note possible spread via equipment and workers, with airborne routes also considered. Gov Branstad calls the outbreak unlike any prior disaster and requests state disaster funds. Federal and state responders remain deployed, assessing impact and future risks as fall returns.

Iowa pipeline permit faces scrutiny over maps and route details
A 14 page letter outlines more than 90 issues the Iowa Utilities Board must solve before Dakota Access can continue with a 30 inch pipeline from North Dakota to Illinois. The review targets misidentified land, route information, and landowner impacts as hearings loom between November and December with possible eminent domain checks. Community groups urge clearer maps and consistent archaeological standards before any public hearing proceeds.
