Hills braces for flood surge with sandbags and plan
Hills officials prepared for the Iowa River crest with 18 inches more sandbags, a reinforced 500 year flood plan, and trenches. The town held a large meeting as crews guarded the levee from northwest to southeast. Officials hope the river spreads on farm ground east of town before reaching Hills, easing flood risk. The sewer system remains stable as wells supply most homes.
