Trucks oppose heavier Iowa rigs amid statewide fuel protests
In Altoona a spokesman for the Iowa Independent Truckers Association said the 80 000 pound weight allowance ordered by Gov Ray will not alter a planned shutdown. The group plans peaceful picketing while thousands of independent drivers rally against fuel costs, load limits and a 55 mph cap across 30 states. Gas dealers in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines called for pump closures until demands are met, including price controls and inventory disclosures.
