Veterans Welcome Bonus Bonds On Postal Route in Cedar Rapids
A thousand World War II veterans in Cedar Rapids received adjusted compensation bonds from letter carriers on a Monday, each veteran at home with family as the bonds arrived. Recipients planned to pay debts, buy vehicles, or save, with some predicting broad economic effects and others planning immediate purchases. Local postman Luther Lowery led the effort, identifying recipients with help from wives and neighbors.
