The city’s street lighting expense will rise by about 41 thousand dollars annually as Interstate 380 on the southwest side is lit. Iowa Electric provides rate data to Public Works Director Jon Janda, estimating 30 thousand dollars per year for lighting the I 380 and Highway 30 interchange, and total interstate lighting near city limits could cost 90 to 100 thousand annually. The light bill, not construction, is paid by the city, similar to Des Moines and other Iowa cities. Interstate 380 full section aims to open June 25 with most lighting installed by month’s end. some lights are testing before the open.
