Swollen Cedar River neared flood stage at 17 feet with a temporary lull. Sandbag crews reinforced levees to protect about 15 homes along the east bank near Fourteenth Avenue Bridge as water threatened a levee breach and loomed again by morning.
Paul Rene Refoule, husband of Atlanta socialite Peggy Refoule, was jailed on sodomy charges following the murder of his wife. A lie detector expert testified Refoule appeared false when questioned about the homicide. He posted a $10,000 appearance bond and faced grand jury considerations in Fulton County.
