Conservation underway on a three dimensional fresco by Grant Wood on Brucemore sleeping porch in Cedar Rapids. The whimsical mural features vines birds and a mouse and was created in 1925 for Irene Douglas with a $182 fee. recently valued at 3.5 million.
Proceeds from a Tahitian themed fundraiser at Brucemore on June 28 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. support the Grant Wood sleeping porch restoration. Organizers quote a $90,000 project cost and plan July to August work including plaster stabilization and color conservation.
