Iowa professor aids Joplin tornado victim identifications
Darrell Wilkins of the Carver College of Medicine led a team that helped identify 131 bodies after the May 22 Joplin tornado. An original Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team member, he has aided mass fatality recovery after 9 11 and Hurricane Katrina, noting the priority of reuniting families with their loved ones. In ten days the makeshift morgue identified all victims brought in. No victim is released without identification.
