Cedar Rapids man convicted in 1989 Econo Foods robbery

James Evans of Cedar Rapids was convicted Wednesday in Linn County District Court of second degree robbery for the 1989 theft from two Econo Foods employees. Jurors found him guilty. earlier counts included first degree robbery tied to the same holdup at 2300 Edgewood Road SW. Details on page 4A.

Iowa Jobless Benefits Set to Rise July First

Iowa officials announce a boost in unemployment benefits starting July 1. The maximum weekly payment will be 186 dollars for workers with no dependents rising to 228 dollars for those with four or more dependents, up from 181 to 222 dollars.

Albert Lea workers bid to buy idle Farmstead plant

A group of former Farmstead Foods employees in Albert Lea Minnesota filed a 6.8 million bid to buy the idle plant out of bankruptcy and resume operations by July end.
