The Island review Stays Afloat But Fails To Frighten
Film adaptation of Peter Benchley novel stars Michael Caine as Maynard and David Warner as Nan. Pirates imprison the pair on a Caribbean island intent on using them for breeding and leadership. The movie delivers suspense in opening attacks but dissolves after landing, with gratuitous violence and weak final act. The review notes box office potential despite lackluster quality and mentions the 1973 Watergate testimony of Jeb Stuart Magruder.
