Iowa adds 127 new positive COVID-19 cases for the prior 24 hours ending 1:30 p.m. Saturday per the Iowa Department of Public Health via The Gazette. Two deaths were recorded statewide, with 6,099 total COVID fatalities since March 2020.
May produced 288 tornadoes nationwide with none reaching EF3 or higher, a first for the month. Storm observers noted many events were short lived and occurred where little damage was done, complicating intensity ratings.
The World Health Organization says it is safe to handle newspapers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
