Cedar Rapids officials see a silver lining in the 2008 flood that crested 11 feet above historic levels. The city plans a $45 million downtown library on Fourth Avenue SE opposite Greene Square Park, accelerated by flood recovery funds and external reinvestment.
In Langley Arkansas teams scoured miles of river and rugged wilderness after flash floods at the Albert Pike Recreation Area. Only two bodies were found as the search for nearly two dozen missing campers extended Saturday. The last survivor was found Friday morning hours after the wall of water swept through camp. Relatives, frustrated by delays and uncertain lines of news, pressed reporters for updates as the operation continued.
Iowa City school district wrapped a yearlong redistricting with only minor boundary shifts. Lincoln and Hills elementary schools move to City High in 2011-12, while others stayed largely the same as the district plans future boundary reviews and supports a potential third comprehensive high school to address enrollment imbalances.
