Weinberger backs shooting spies in peacetime cases
Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger said spies like John Walker and three associates should be shot if convicted, urging a possible change to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He noted Walker’s case would not be affected since it is handled in federal courts. In Norfolk, Arthur Walker admitted to FBI agents that he joined the spy ring to obtain classified material for the Soviets, working for VSE Corp. with access to secret ship data.
