Iowa bar owners seek leeway in smoking ban rules
Bar owners and lawmakers urged the Iowa Department of Public Health to soften the draft rules for the statewide smoking ban taking effect July 1. The dispute centers on outdoor bar areas being treated like restaurants if food is prepared on site. Officials say the final rules will allow input through Aug. 6 before possible changes in October or November.
