Elkader Faces Worst Flood in Town History
The Turkey River surged through Elkader on Monday and crested at 30.9 feet, flooding 100 homes and 15 businesses while 300 to 400 volunteers sandbagged dikes. Residents evacuated as the town rallied, with three daily meals provided at Central Community School and FEMA buying out flood-prone areas in nearby regions.
