Orphans recall 1939 stuttering experiments at Iowa home
Mary Tudor and five peers conducted a controlled study at the Iowa Soldiers Orphans Home in Davenport screening 256 children for stuttering. They split 22 into experimental and control groups, labeling some as stutterers and administering negative therapy, while others received positive care. The process left lasting scars on participants and the researchers.
