Salvage yard owner to sue after zoning denial

George Zinser, owner of Industrial Recycling Service in Cedar Rapids, plans to sue the city after the Board of Adjustment denied his request to expand from 3.5 acres to include land to the south and east. The board, with a 4-1 vote, followed planning staff recommendations to deny the conditional use permit citing aesthetics and a promised buffer zone. Zinser plans to appeal in district court, saying the expansion is needed to meet rising recycling demand.
