Vick Competency Hearing Scheduled in Cedar Rapids
A competency hearing for Ferdinand K. Vick is set for Monday to decide if the Cedar Rapids man can stand trial for an attempted murder charge. Attorneys argue a mental disorder may impair his ability to understand the charges and assist in his defense. If found incompetent, proceedings will halt or custody may be ordered to protect the public. Vick allegedly shot Cedar Rapids Officer Mark Fischer on Feb 4 after a traffic stop, injuring him with four gunshot wounds, and faces concealed weapon charges for a .357 Magnum.
