Iowa Supreme Court orders new trial for Schlitter in 2010 death
The Iowa Supreme Court on Friday granted Schlitter a new trial after finding his defense lawyers failed to request an acquittal during the 2012 trial. Schlitter, 29, of Cedar Rapids, is serving 50 years for child endangerment and involuntary manslaughter in Kamryn Schlitter's death, with the justices ruling the acquittal theory was not properly argued. The court left open three other theories of endangerment that could sustain a conviction, noting juries need not specify which theory they believed.
